What Is The Purpose Of This Community?

The Global IT Smart Security Community (GITSSC) is about wherever you are in the world underneath the blue sky,

wondering what’s your purpose,
questioning why you studied IT and do not feel any value of your presence at work,
staring at the computer screen blankly and stoning away,
the need to pay the roof, the bills, to bring food home but the ‘feeling’ of being underappreciated and being pressured/forced to do tasks that you simply dislike and you can’t voice it out due to the management style,
knowing you can actually produce a far more better work, the ability to perform, ability to deliver results,
the lack of interest & time to have a discussion about the work you proactively have done,
not understanding or prioritizing the importance of your message about enforcing security practices and process compliance,
the lack of flexibility of working arrangements/time which deters you from doing more constructive work
being assigned with mundane tasks regardless of voicing out the interest to learn yet it’s being assigned to someone else due to some reasons (biasness/favoritism),
wondering if you really can do it/configure/implement/perform in the in this job/position/role,
working with colleagues that you do not like yet there isn’t a choice due to the world-wide events and affecting the job market (which again, how is that even possible, that does not make sense as already mentioned above) and many more,
wondering if anyone out there in the world feels like you,

WELL, the amazing news and the fun part is, we gather here underneath the blue sky and openly share our thoughts as blog articles about the IT & CyberSecurity process/policies/procedures /practices that can be referred to as a starting point/guidance and contribute globally.

We provide our help to anyone who is seeking for such information and is readily available for them to bring it forward into their company for further discussion, reviewing & approval.

The simple fact/joy that it can be/will be implemented somwhere else in the world and enable hunderds/thousands/millions to progress, that’s a WIN isn’t it?

My Story

I am a Singaporean and migrated to Australia to pursure by Bachelors in IT and have been living in Melbourne for 6 years with my sister. I am an IT Security Professional for 12 years. My sister is an Accountant for 10 years.

I didn't get the opportunity to get a Work Visa Sponsorship from my last company as they didnt understand of the process required in the beginning (for almost a year in advance) from the company side & was informed unable to proceed further when they got to know what's required.

Luckily, my sister's Work Visa Sponsorship got approved by her company. She is living in Australia, Melbourne coming
8 years (2019 - 2027) on temporary visas and is working in one of the high demand occupation and still yet to get her PR Invite.

To your surprise, I am a low benchmarker (merely 75 points). HAHAH! I am waiting for my PR invite for the past 1 year (even after completing 6 years as temporary resident) and amusingly I am due for English Exam Re-take and Skills Assesment Re-take again in 2 months.

My sister is at 80 points (also low benchmarker) and still waiting. As per the governement updates, Accountants with 95/100+ points are highly considered much faster for quicker visa processing. We could only pray they will give the PR Grant before 2027 for her.

Yet the funny part is how the country/government is broadcasting to the world, the desparate need for people and
yet the irony they only consider IT & Accountant individuals who scoe 90+ points for quicker and faster visa processing.

As for mine, my IT Security skillset/experience does not provide confidence to an Australian Employer to sponsor me. Or maybe, the news & the reality do not match as in xx,xxxx visa sponsorships are available said by the gov but actually they are not actively sponsoring.

At the same time, the very same country had experienced several security breaches, tax evasion, account frauds in major local corporations and local businesses.

Furthermore, I need to stress out and spend more money to provide updated results so that my application is active in the hopes to get 90+ points so that my PR application will be considered. Same for my sister as well.

In such instances, not surprised, how many have already let go of that dream and return back home and deal with whatever is going and living their life. The world keeps spinning and life goes on.
